The Infant Program

At LilyPad Learning Center infants ages 6 weeks to 24 months will be provided with two spaces that promote a quiet and relaxed environment for proper development. Babies change and progress very quickly, which reflects on their needs. The staff at LilyPad are conscious of this and change activities based on the level of the child.

The first space provided for infants is the sleeping are. This room is designed to provide a quiet atmosphere that allows a child time to unwind, which research has shown to be necessary for healthy development. The room is dimly lit to help minimize distractions and noise. Rocking chairs and soft seating are also provides so staff and parents are able to meet the needs of the children. Each child has their own crib so that they become familiar with the setting to encourage beneficial rest time.

The second space designated for infants is the active play room. Because of the differences in babies’ 6 weeks through 24 months the room is split to accommodate the various needs. Non-mobile babies will be provided with a variety of soft toys and equipment for exploration. Mobile babies will have a wide variety of activities that are age appropriate and encourage development. Toys and equipment in a variety of colors and shapes will be used.

Each day the staff will fill out your child’s communication log to help inform you, the parent, of their feedings, naps and diaper changes. They will also record what activities your child participated in and their overall mood for the day. The communication log is a great way for parents and staff to communicate information that may be interrupted during the distractions during drop off and pick up.

When the time comes to move a child to the next program room/area, the care provider will make a recommendation. The director(s) will observe the child in their setting as many times as possible and based on their decision will talk with the parent(s) to set up a meeting time to discuss the transition. The parents and the director will design a plan for a smooth transition that helps in the developmental growth of the child.
